Lehi’s Prophecies and Counsel to His Family
- 2 Nephi 1:4–5
- I have seen Jerusalem's destruction in vision, and we have obtained a land of promise.
- 2 Nephi 1:6–7
- This land is consecrated to those who the Lord leads to it.
- 2 Nephi 1:7
- If the inhabitants of this land keep the commandments, it will be a land of liberty unto them; failure to keep the commandments will bring captivity.
- 2 Nephi 1:8–9
- This land has been kept from other nations, as a place of inheritance.
- 2 Nephi 1:9
- Blessing will follow those who keep the commandments.
- 2 Nephi 1:10
- Unbelief and rejection of Christ will lead the judgement of God.
- 2 Nephi 1:11–12
- Other nations will come into the land, take away the inheritances, and initiate violence.
- 2 Nephi 1:13–15
- Awake and arise, hear the words of a dying parent, who is redeemed of the Lord, and encircled by his love.
- 2 Nephi 1:16–18
- Keep the commandments, and don’t let your hard hearts lead to the cursing of the Lord coming upon you.
- 2 Nephi 1:19–22
- Don’t become cursed; keeping the commandments will lead to prosperity in the land.

- Put on the armor of righteousness, and arise from the dusty darkness.
- 2 Nephi 1:24
- Don’t rebel against Nephi: he has been an instrument in the hands of God.

- I fear that Laman and Lemuel will again rebel against Nephi, at their own eternal peril.

- Nephi’s sharpness has been nothing less than the truth, which you have taken to be so hard.

- The power of God is with Nephi, and the Spirit gives him commandments.

- Lehi counsels all of his sons and sons-in-law to pay heed to Nephi, that they may all be blessed.

- To Zoram, Lehi gives the blessing of Nephi, and promises that Nephi and Zoram’s posterities may both be secure in this land.

- Lehi speaks to Jacob, born in the wilderness, and greatly afflicted, yet blessed.
- 2 Nephi 2:3–4
- Jacob’s soul will be blessed, his life spent in the service of God, and is redeemed by God.

- Salvation is free, and no one is justified by any law.
- 2 Nephi 2:6–7
- Redemption comes in and through the Holy Messiah, who graciously answers the ends of the law by offering himself as a sacrifice for sin, so those who have a broken heart and contrite spirit may be redeemed.

- It is greatly important to proclaim that no one can dwell in the presence of God except through the mercy and grace of the resurrected Messiah.

- The Messiah intercedes for mankind, and those that believe in him are saved.

- Because of this intercession, all mankind will be judged according to truth and holiness.

- The law brings about punishment for the wicked, as opposed to the atonement, which brings about happiness.

- Opposition in all things is required to being about righteousness, holiness, and goodness, as well as their opposites.

- Opposites ares required to have life, meaning, and incorruption.
- 2 Nephi 2:12
- Were it not for opposites, nothing would have meaning or reason for being, and God’s wisdom, purposes, power, mercy and justice would all destroyed.

- Without law, there is no sin, without sin, there is not righteousness or punishment, and without righteousness there is no happiness or misery.

- If these things don’t exist, then there is no God, no creation, and no people.

- Speaking not just to Jacob, but now to all his sons, Lehi teaches that God created all things, both things to act and to be acted upon.

- God commissioned man to act for himself, and therefore created necessary opposition.

- A fallen angel seeks to make others miserably like himself.

- The devil enticed Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit; Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden of Eden and produced humanity.

- A lengthened time of probation was given to mankind to repent.

- All of mankind, being fallen, must repent; were it not for the fall, everything would forever be in its original state.

- In a pre-fallen state, mankind would have had no children, and would be in an ignorant state of innocence; the fall of man was designed to enable humanity to experience joy.

- The Messiah will come to redeem mankind from the fall, setting them free to choose their own course, but accountable to God at the last day.

- Mankind can, through the great Mediator, choose liberty and eternal life, or can choose captivity and death by following the devil.

- Look to the great Mediator and be faithful to him, choosing eternal life instead of eternal death.

- I say these in my last days, wanting nothing more than the everlasting welfare of your souls.

- Lehi addresses Joseph, who was born in the wilderness.

- May this land be consecrated as an inheritance to you, Joseph, so long as you keep the commandments.

- May the Lord bless you that your posterity be preserved; we are descendants of Joseph of Egypt.

- Joseph saw our day, and saw a righteous branch from his posterity who would know of the Messiah.

- Joseph prophesies of a choice seer that would descend from him.
- 2 Nephi 3:7–13
- Joseph said that this choice seer would bring to light ancient covenants, and restore them.
- 2 Nephi 3:14–15
- Joseph prophesied that this seer will be blessed, and will be named after himself, and also bear the name of his father.
- 2 Nephi 3:16–21
- Joseph prophesied that this seer will be as Moses, will have spokesman, and will cry repentance to his descendants.
- 2 Nephi 3:22–23
- Because of this covenant, Joseph, you are blessed, and you posterity will will hearken to these words, and be preserved.
- 2 Nephi 3:24
- A mighty one will be among your descendants, and will work mighty wonders in bringing about a restoration.
- 2 Nephi 3:25
- Listen to your brother Nephi, and you will be blessed.
- 2 Nephi 4:1-2
- Nephi remarks that Lehi’s prophesies concerning the posterity of Joseph are great, and apply to the Lehi’s family.
- 2 Nephi 4:3–9
- Lehi speaks to the households of Laman and Lemuel, counseling them to keep the commandments, and promising that they will obtain mercy.
- 2 Nephi 4:10–12
- Lehi speaks to the sons of Ishmael, his household, and tells Sam that his posterity will be blessed with Nephi’s.
