“Blessed with Your Fathers Who Have Gone Before”

Brant Gardner

Translation: The language is borrowed from 1 Corinthians 15:42, but the context makes the description of “bodies… moldering in corruption” horribly literal. Mormon is seeing (or remembering) the corpses of his friends, neighbors, and relatives lying on Cumorah. Corruption would have begun within hours of their deaths. Mormon knows that the resurrection will raise them incorruptible, but they have rejected the gospel. Still, Mormon holds out hope for the faithful among them who continued to follow Yahweh despite the apostasy in the greater society. They will be “blessed with your fathers who have gone before.”
