“Three Days and Three Nights in the Most Bitter Pain”

Brant Gardner

The repetition of the three days and three nights has a strong dramatic effect and centers Alma’s symbolic death and resurrection on the Messiah, whom he remembers in the depths of despair. In an allegorical sense, Alma’s remembrance stands for the Messiah’s atonement for all. Yahweh-Messiah saves Alma from the pains of hell.
