The King James Version only implies the subject in the first phrase. It should read “and thou forgettest.… ” Other translations add this subject.
As Yahweh asks his next question, he parallels Israel’s evocation of the sleeping Lord with the counter indictment that Israel has forgotten its powerful God. Not only did he lead Israel out of Egypt, but he also created the heavens and the earth. Israel, by forgetting Yahweh’s power, has become fearful of man. Yahweh also accuses them of inventing an unrealistic and fanciful fear: “Where is the fury of the oppressor?”
While Israel is accusing Yahweh of slumber, he reminds them of his constancy. There is no urgency, the Lord cautions. They should be patient.
