Suddenly we find Nephi beginning to mourn because of his "iniquities." But what is he talking about? As the next chapter unfolds we learn that barely had Lehi been laid to rest before Laman and Lemuel revolted. It happened when Nephi tried to remind these older brothers that their rude and crude ways were offensive to the Lord. The rebellion of Laman and Lemuel was so serious that Nephi knew they were once more plotting to kill him. We learn later that he felt like taking the sword of Laban and settling the treasonable conduct of these brothers then and there. However, Nephi knew this temptation to take direct action against his brother was a sin. Unless you know what was boiling in Nephi's mind, it is impossible to understand what he is talking about in the rest of this chapter.
