“The place of gathering has been established, and there is ‘none other place appointed,’ we are told, ‘until the day cometh when there is found no more room for them; and then I have other places which I will appoint unto them, and they shall be called stakes, for the curtains or the strength of Zion’ (see D&C 101:20–21; Isaiah 54:2–3; 3 Nephi 22:2–3). The stakes of Zion are the gathering places for latter-day Israel” (McConkie and Millet, Doctrinal Commentary, 1:166). The New Jerusalem “will be built upon the American continent” (Articles of Faith 1:10).
