Plates of Mormon are the few plates that Mormon gave to his son Moroni after making a record from the plates of Nephi. Mormon said that he made “this record out of the plates of Nephi” and hid up the other records entrusted to him in the hill Cumorah (Mormon 6:6). He had earlier made “a full account” on the plates of Nephi but wrote less fully “upon these plates” (Mormon 2:17-18).
Mormon had taken the plates of Nephi and made a record according to Ammaron’s words (Mormon 2:17-18). He delivered the records he had been making to Moroni, expecting Moroni might write concerning the Nephites and concerning Christ (Words of Mormon 1:1-3). Moroni said, “I do finish the record of my father, Mormon,” and later wrote that he would “hide up the records in the earth” (Mormon 8:1; Mormon 8:4).
