Cockatrice is the creature whose den a weaned child will approach in an oracle of peace. The child “shall put his hand on the cockatrice’s den,” while a sucking child plays on the hole of an asp (2 Nephi 21:8). The same image says that “the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’s den” (2 Nephi 30:14).
Another oracle says that “out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice.” It adds that “his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent” while addressing Palestina after the breaking of the rod that smote it (2 Nephi 24:29).
