Mormon had followed the plan of salvation and attained the desired goal. He was filled with the everlasting love of charity for all mankind, and he especially loved little children. He urged his son Moroni to pray for the prideful Nephites (vv. 27–29). Perhaps there is no better example of charity than Mormon, except the Savior himself. Moroni took his father’s advice and attained that same quality of love. As he later abridged the record of the Jaredites, he prayed for the Gentiles unto who his record would come (Ether 12:33–41). As he added a few more chapters to the records of his father, he also did it for the Lamanites who were seeking to destroy him (Moroni 2:1–4). With such examples and admonitions to follow, we should be encouraged to strive to attain the same love of Christ in our lives “for charity never faileth” and “all other things must fail” (Moroni 7:46).
