Mormon does not leave the exhortation with things that should not be done, but progresses beyond that to things that should be done: teach faith and repentance to those who are accountable for their behavior before the Lord. We mustn’t baptize innocent children, for these are the models of what the parents should themselves become! Little children are already alive in Christ. It is the rest of us, as accountable individuals, who should seek that status: being alive in Christ through His redeeming grace and our own obedience and covenant honor. The Atonement of Christ envelops little children in saving grace, for they are not capable of sinning. We are commanded of the Savior to become as little children in order to qualify to enter the kingdom of heaven (see Matthew 18:3). Remember the goodness of God as He cares for all people. Children are alive in Christ. He is no respecter of persons. We are all equal in His sight—we are all His children.
