Notice that the Atonement not only saved little children who had not reached the age of accountability, but it also did away with the need for circumcision. This practice was initiated around 2000 B.C. when God promised Abraham that "through his seed should all the nations of the earth be blessed." Paul said this referred to the coming of Christ.1 Now that the Savior had been born and fulfilled his mission, the Lord said circumcision should be discontinued as the ordinance or token of the original covenant with Abraham. As Jesus said in verse 8, "the law of circumcision is done away in me."
