Mormon asks whether miracles ceased “because Christ hath ascended into heaven” because faith is now founded on an event that cannot be denied. For Mormon, it was absolutely undeniable. Thus, it is a legitimate question whether faith is still needed. Of course, the answer is that faith is still required, and Mormon uses the idea of miracles as an indication that faith is still operative. Why miracles? Because we don’t understand them. They cannot be foundations for knowledge or they are not miracles. The very existence of miracles, to Mormon, requires faith to understand and believe in them.
