Mormon uses the concept of opposition to create a great dichotomy. God stands at one extreme as the representative of goodness, and the devil stands at the other as the representative of evil. By definition, all that is good comes from God, while all that is evil, also by definition, comes from the devil.
Human beings, possessing agency, are positioned squarely between these symbolic opposites. It is the exercise of that agency in choosing “enticings” from one extreme or the other that move humans toward good or evil.
