Mormon was not deceived by outward appearances, but he saw and judged his brethren to whom he spoke, rightly and with great compassion. He saw how they walked peaceably, not only before God, but also before one another. To walk peaceably before God, is to walk in the Path of Righteousness. If there is no righteousness, there is no peace. "There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." (Jeremiah 6:14)
Not only the peace that filled their hearts, but the lives of Mormon's brethren proved their belief in the great truths the Church of Christ proclaimed; their bearing toward their brethren, their faithfulness to God and His laws, their integrity in every line of duty, their determination to walk in the path of duty and loyalty, marked them as peaceable followers of Christ (v. 3), and in Him they had a joyous hope of eternal rest in the Kingdom of God, which is Life Everlasting.
We may conclude our introduction of Mormon by repeating the words of the Lord concerning Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron the brother of Moses: "The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with Me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity." (Malachi 2:6)
