The Book of Mormon preserves several remarkable public speeches given by prophets of God, including King Benjamin’s final discourse on the grounds of the temple at Zarahemla (see Mosiah 2–4), the discourses on faith and the Atonement given by Alma and Amulek to the assembled Zoramite outcasts (see Alma 32–34), the magnificent sermons of the resurrected Lord in Bountiful (3 Nephi), and now this gem of wisdom from the mouth of Mormon, preserved for us by his admiring son, Moroni. These and similar speeches in the Book of Mormon transport us back in time to the scenes of inspiration where our Father in Heaven speaks to the people through the mouths of His holy representatives (including His Only Begotten Son)—and by extension, to all in the latter days—as a means of lifting us in the strength of truth and pure knowledge.
