It is important to continually renew the covenants of baptism by partaking of the sacrament and forcing the mind to reflect on mistakes which may have occurred so that there can be an appeal to the Lord to forgive those offenses and help each member overcome their weaknesses so they will not be repeated. This is what the Lord calls "maintaining" forgiveness from one sacrament service to another.1 We don't talk about "maintaining" forgiveness as much as we probably should. That is why many people neglect their sacrament services without realizing that they are not getting their covenants renewed and their sins forgiven.
