The prophecy to Coriantumr to repent or be destroyed as a people, except that he would remain alive to see another people inherit the land, was fulfilled when the people of Zarahemla, the Mulekites, discovered him sometime after 589 B.C. (see Omni 1:21–22). He was the only survivor of his people as was prophesied (Ether 13:20–21).
The animal instinct of the Jaredites is shown when they turn on Ether and attempt to kill him (v. 22). The animal pack will turn on an obedient dog when he tries to protect his master’s flocks, pets, or possession. Ether was attempting to do the will of his master, Jesus Christ, and get the people to repent, but they turned on him so that they could continue their wickedness.
