“We have no way of knowing how many mortal persons have seen the Lord. Individual saints and prophets have seen him in all dispensations, and sometimes he has appeared to large congregations. We know that ‘many, exceeding great many’ (Alma 13:12), as Alma expressed it, have enjoyed this privilege. We are left to assume that there are far more occasions—thousands or tens of thousands of times over—that we do not know of than those of which we do have knowledge” (McConkie, Promised Messiah, 605).
