In verse 22, Moroni referred to a commandment from Jesus about his role in bringing the Book of Mormon to the world. Here, he expresses his fear “unto him [Jesus]” that “the Gentiles will mock at these things, because of our weakness in writing.” I hypothesize that Moroni has seen a vision of the Book of Mormon’s future derisive reception by many Gentiles. It is not clear what Moroni meant by “weakness in writing”; however, his fears were fully realized by modern readers who have denounced the book as foolishness and the product of Joseph Smith’s imagination.
