“Our Weakness in Writing”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Moroni humbly apologizes to the Lord for the imperfections in the record he was making. Having complied with the divine instruction to write, he expresses fear that the Gentiles would mock at his efforts, because of his lack of literary ability. As a trusting child, speaking to a beloved parent, he reminds his Heavenly Father of the fact that He had not been pleased to make him, or his people "mighty in writing," as He had in the spoken word. This is a notable observation, for Moroni, feeling very inadequate to the task required of him, in his prayer to the Lord, said: "And Thou hast made us that we could write but little, because of the awkwardness of our hands. Behold, Thou hast not made us mighty in writing like unto the Brother of Jared, for Thou madest him that the things which he wrote were mighty even as Thou art, unto the overpowering of man to read them."
