The incident referred to is recorded in Alma 14:25-29. A solemn warning against the folly of defying the Almighty is therein seen. The Ammonihahites, angered because of Alma's rebuke to them for their wickedness, were seeking ways to destroy him and his missionary companion, Amulek. They were arrested and while in prison suffered almost every indignity and torment human ingenuity could suggest or evil power achieve. At length, Alma, under a sense of unjust treatment, cried: "How long shall we suffer these great afflictions, O Lord? O Lord, give us strength according to our faith which is in Christ, even unto deliverance."
The Lord heard and answered his appeal. They were immediately delivered from their bands. By faith this was brought about. The judges and priests who sought to destroy God's servants and thereby in doing so defied His power, were themselves destroyed. "Be not deceived: God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Hebrews 10:31)
