The Book of Mormon contains at least two classic definitions of faith. Moroni's definition is: "faith is things which are hoped for and not seen" (Ether 12:6). Alma the younger defined faith as follows: "faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true" (Alma 32:21). Paul defined faith in a similar way: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
