“By Which He Did Cause the Shedding of Much Blood”

W. Cleon Skousen

Calamity followed calamity during these ensuing years. There was not only warfare, but secret combinations intermixed with famines and pestilences. As Moroni says, it was a greater destruction than at any time in the history of the Jaredites. Verse 8 says there was a brief period when the terrified Jaredites were frightened into repentance, but it did not last long. Shiblom was slain and Seth, his successor, was placed in captivity the rest of his life.

But the next one in line was Ahah, and he rose up in wrath and seized the kingdom. But he was a wicked king and his reign did not last long. His successor was Ethem, who was also wicked, so that a great body of prophets arose in the land and repeated the prophecy of total destruction for the Jaredites for the whole people if they did not repent. The people rejected the prophets and they withdrew from among the people.
