Ether 10:24 mentions that the Jaredites "did have silks." According to Hugh Nibley, since few substances suffer more complete oxidation than silk, it is not surprising that the only evidence we have of its early existence is written records. But these are sufficient to allow the Jaredites the knowledge of how to produce silken garments.
