This would appear to be a great war of destruction. In reality we are probably speaking of the destruction of the warring houses, not all of the people of the land. There would be farmers in the fields who were not effected by this destruction. This text is best read as the destruction of the kin of Akish, and the kin-group beholding to his sons.
