When miracles cease, it is because of the unbelief of the people—not because God is a changing God. When we venture down worldly pathways of iniquity and fail to know God, miracles vanish from our lives. For this reason, Mormon and Moroni endeavor to help us make a course correction. They exhort us to repent, believe in Christ, be baptized, and prepare ourselves for the imminent return of the great Lawgiver and Judge of mankind in His glory. They graphically describe the conditions of wickedness that will prevail at the time of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. This mighty word of Christ—preserved by the hand of God and brought forth miraculously in a day when miracles have ceased because the people “dwindle in unbelief, and depart from the right way, and know not the God in whom they should trust” (Mormon 9:20)—confirms the truth of the Bible and proves that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When we believe and exercise our faith, we receive divine help and become instruments in the hand of the Lord in performing miracles (see 3 Nephi 8:1).
