Moroni describes both phases of the atonement: overcoming temporal death and achieving eternal life, determined by judgment and assignment to one’s eternal reward. Moroni does not describe the second step as overcoming spiritual death, even though earlier prophets have typically made the parallel explicit (2 Ne. 9:10–12; Alma 12:16, 42:9; Hel. 14:6). But again, Moroni is not teaching and clarifying principles. He is using these principles as evidence of Yahweh’s goodness.
