Because the Nephites made their records on gold plates, Moroni is concerned lest the value of the metal may be more intriguing to those who receive them in the latter days than the history they contain. In fact when the resurrected Moroni appeared to the boy Joseph Smith and told him to meet him on the hill Cumorah to see the plates, young Joseph couldn't help thinking what a glorious thing it would be to have the precious gold plates in their home. Joseph really got a severed scolding from Moroni when he met the angel on the hill. Moroni said he must never let such thoughts come into his mind again. This chastising of Joseph is covered by B. H. Roberts in the Comprehensive History of the Church 1:77-78.
