Chronology: Four hundred years would be A.D. 391, fifteen years after the battle at Cumorah. Mormon does not say how long after that battle he finished his own record, but ten years or more seems reasonable. Moroni fails to report any of his own activities during this time, but obviously he found a way to survive without being detected by the Lamanites.
