“Chapter 7 contains the last words that Mormon engraved on the plates, and they are words of testimony concerning Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God, that he rose again and conquered death, and that he will meet us all at his judgment-seat. He invited the survivors, the Lamanites and their posterity, to lay down their weapons of war, to seek peace and the Prince of Peace. He provides redemption for the world and the opportunity to ‘sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost … in a state of happiness which hath no end’” (Ogden and Skinner, Book of Mormon, 2:244).
1. Remember always that “ye are of the house of Israel” (Mormon 7:2).
2. “Come unto repentance,” for it is the only path to salvation (v. 3).
3. Do not be a people of war unless God commands (v. 4).
4. Obtain “knowledge of your fathers” and their failings (v. 5).
5. Believe in Jesus Christ and the power of the Atonement (v. 5).
6. Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (v. 8).
7. “Lay hold” upon the gospel of Jesus Christ as it shall come forth in the Bible and the Book of Mormon (v. 8).
8. Know what it means to be a “covenant” people and that as the seed of Jacob, you are inheritors of the “first covenant” (v. 10).
