“Amos, Son of Nephi”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Amos receives charge of the sacred records around AD 110, upon the passing of his father. Nephi, his father, is apparently the son of Nephi, the first-named of the Savior’s disciples and an intimate associate of the resurrected Lord. As such, Nephi, the original disciple, would have imparted to his son Nephi careful counsel about the sacred character of the commission to preserve and augment the records of the people. This counsel has no doubt been passed along to Amos, who serves in that capacity for eighty-four years. Amos is blessed to be able to report conditions of peace throughout the land, except for a small revolt of people who depart from the Church and assume the name of Lamanites (see 4 Nephi 1:18–20). Before his death, Amos passes the sacred records to his son, Amos.
