When the Gentiles receive the Book of Mormon, they will bring it “unto you,” or unto the Nephites’ descendants. Even though the Book of Mormon witnesses the destruction of the Nephites, both the Savior and Mormon see the purpose of the Book of Mormon being fulfilled as it comes to the Nephites’ descendants. Mormon’s conclusion to his work emphasizes: “And now, behold, I would speak somewhat unto the remnant of this people who are spared, if it so be that God may give unto them my words, that they may know of the things of their fathers; yea, I speak unto you, ye remnant of the house of Israel” (Morm. 7:1). While the Nephites are the focus of the record and maintain their conceptual separation from the Lamanites, the promises of the book and the gospel are to the house of Israel. In the mixture of peoples including Nephites and Lamanites, the remnant of the New World house of Israel will receive the Savior’s words and message.
