“Blessed Are All They Who Do Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness”
To hunger and thirst after righteousness is to yearn with all one’s soul for the things of the Spirit; to crave that goodness of character and that nobility of soul which graced the ancient worthies; to want more than anything else to enjoy the fruit of the Spirit, the gifts and signs and wonders which always accompany faith. To hunger and thirst after righteousness is to have an eye single to the glory of God; to desire what the Lord desires, to feel what he feels, to strive to do what he would do under similar circumstances. To hunger and thirst after righteousness is to trust completely in the Savior to rely wholly upon his mercy and grace, to yield one’s heart unto God. The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that the end result of hungering and thirsting after righteousness is the assurance of eternal life (see Teachings, p. 150).
