How can being “poor in spirit” or having reason to “mourn” be a blessing?

Thomas R. Valletta

Notice that in verse 3 the Lord included a phrase that is not found in the New Testament version of this sermon. The poor in spirit (meaning the humble) will receive the kingdom of heaven if they “come unto” the Savior. Humility alone is not sufficient. Would that also apply to those who mourn? Does feeling sorrowful for a loved one’s fall into sin or death bring comfort? In what ways does turning to the Savior in your sorrow make a difference?
