What does it mean that Christ is the light of the world?

Thomas R. Valletta

“‘Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life’ (John 8:12). This is ‘the light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed’ (D&C 88:13). Light and darkness cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Where the light of Christ is found, the darkness of Lucifer, even Satan, must depart, defeated” (Hales, “In Remembrance of Jesus,” 25–26).
