Mormon preserves an important aspect of the religious life of the people during these troubled times. Despite the conflict everywhere present, the people of God attend to the requisite ordinances of the gospel. There is a carefully organized ecclesiastical structure, with men called and ordained in the ministry. Converts are baptized according to the prescribed patterns of covenant-making and witness before God their willingness to take upon them the name of Christ and keep His commandments. In the midst of the most perilous and chaotic societal foment, the faithful few remember to follow the strait and narrow pathway and obey their Lord and Master by being baptized.
