In our day a binding testimony of Christ must embrace a witness that Joseph Smith was the prophet through whom the only true and living Church on the face of the whole earth has been restored. It must also embrace the testimony of Christ as he is represented in the Book of Mormon.
The Jewish hope of a messiah was for a conquering hero, not a suffering servant who would willingly lay down his life. Thus in the meridian day a binding testimony of Christ had to include the necessity of his suffering and death and the reality of lit resurrection. This was also the testimony of the prophets who taught in the New World.
