Through this experience, the Nephites discovered that God is true to His word. If they “repent” and “cry unto the Lord” they would be delivered from their enemy (see 3 Nephi 3:15). “After the victory, the Nephites [here] recognized the source of their strength. … That recognition on the part of the Nephites is important because it is plain that they knew what they were doing and what God had done” (Riddle, “Days of Wickedness and Vengeance,” 193).
