Culture: In the earlier cases of Lamanite conversions, the new converts soon moved into Nephite lands and became Nephites. However, during the very last Lamanite conversion (resulting from Nephi2 and Lehi4’s mission, recounted in Helaman 5), the Lamanites remained in their own lands. Regardless of the historical situation, literarily this separation allows for at least some non-Nephite Lamanite believers from which Samuel the Lamanite will come as a righteous outsider to the unrighteous Nephite “insiders.” At this point, however, many of these righteous “outsiders” do unite themselves with the Nephites.
