“Satan Did Get Great Hold Upon the Hearts of the People”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Signs and wonders are not enough to sustain faith or to cause one to repent. Our hearts need to be right. We are to offer to the Lord a broken heart and a contrite spirit in order to be able to change. At the same time, we should be cognizant of the power of the devil. When we are not willing to believe or exercise faith, we are filled with doubt. This gives Satan a chance to lead us astray. The clarion words of Samuel ring true. If we do not repent, we must suffer and be destroyed. The governing principle is to recognize the Savior in our lives. He has taught us through His prophets to be believing and not harden our hearts. A hardened heart is the sure way to lose the blessings of the Lord in our lives. Samuel’s words are needed as much today as they were thousands of years ago. Will we hearken to the words of the prophets of God? They speak His words, and they are the words that, when followed, can lead us to eternal life.
