“Great Signs and Wonders: Prophets and Angels”

Monte S. Nyman

In preparation for the birth of Christ, the wise were more blessed, but the people in general responded to Satan’s effort to discredit the work of the prophets and the Spirit, and to trust in the power of man (vv. 14–15). How many people today follow similar rationalizations as those advocated by the unbelievers here? Do we look to our own strength rather than to the power of God? Do we trust in our wisdom rather than in the revelations of God? Do we attribute the miracles of today to be of the evil one (vv. 16–22)? As the Second Coming draws nearer, we can expect more and more of these explanations to be used against us and the Church. Satan is real and he is working overtime against the good (v. 22). Satan has great hold upon many hearts today, but there are miracles happening among the people of God (v. 23). May we learn to look to God, trust in his revelations, and recognize the miracles of God as we study the Record of Helaman, so n of Alma and also the record of Helaman and his sons, Nephi and Lehi.
