Samuel attempts to show the Nephites the value of steadfastly obeying the Lord by continuing to highlight the experience of the Lamanites. The Lamanites are firm in their beliefs, and “the Lord shall bless them and prolong their days.” When the calamities come at the time of the Messiah, this promise of protection for the Lamanites will be fulfilled. The vast majority of the recorded destruction will be in the lands of the Nephites.
