“Have Been a Chosen People”
The fact that a people were once chosen of the Lord does not necessarily mean that they will always retain that designation. All blessings and birthrights can be forfeited. To be chosen is to have been called or designated as the Lord’s servant. Those so grouped together during their mortal probation have more abundant opportunities than others to make and keep the covenants of salvation and to act as an ensign to the nations. Should they prove unworthy of that status, the Lord can release them from it just as he would any unworthy office holder in the Church. (See D&C 121:16-21.)
