Samuel being rejected because he was a Lamanite is another evidence of the Nephite’s pride. The Nephites at this time supposed they were better than the Lamanites (see Jacob 2:10; Alma 5:54). Why Samuel inserted his lineage and his purpose in coming on the wall at this time in his prophecy is not known. Perhaps some were ridiculing or questioning his authority or right to speak. In our day, many General Authorities are called from other nations. From the words of Samuel, may we take caution against assuming they are not as qualified or prepared as any others who may be called.
The four reasons for his coming on the wall (Helaman 14:11–12) were described under Helaman 13:1–4. We will now discuss the second reason for his coming on the wall. Of course all four reasons were given as a basis for the Nephites to repent (v. 13).
