“In the very nature of things, persecution of true prophets includes the acceptance of false prophets. It is a philosophical impossibility to reject truth without accepting error, to depart from true teachers without cleaving to false ones, to reject he Lord’s ministers without giving allegiance to those who follow the other master [see Helaman 13:27–28]” (McConkie, Promised Messiah, 37).
What examples have you seen of people today who hold fast to “foolish and blind guides” and ideas because doing so allows them to ignore or deny the consequences of the lifestyle they desire to have? (13:29) What habits or behaviors are vigorously defended today despite evidence of their destructive consequences? What examples do you see today of “blind guides” that many follow as if they were prophets? How are “freedom” and “personal choice” used to defend behaviors that are destructive to society as a whole?
