According to Hugh Nibley, 2 Baruch of the Dead Sea Scrolls states that all of Israel’s treasures must be hid up unto the Lord to prevent strangers from obtaining them. Similarly, we read in the Book of Mormon that the Lord commanded His people in the New World to hide up their treasures unto Him. Furthermore, the Copper Scroll from Cave Four at Qumran was written on sheets made of copper alloy—written to be hidden up. Nibley says, “That’s why it was written, for it contains a record of all the other treasures hidden up unto the Lord. Here we have a concrete and indisputable example of an ancient Israelite practice.” (See Echoes, 482.)
