Samuel pronounces upon them the same curse as has Nephi. The Nephites are no longer under the protection of the foundational promise. That promise of protection held only as long as they were righteous. Since they will not repent, the Lord withdraws his Spirit (symbolic of his protection) and they are now subject to the curse. Their total destruction will come within 400 years.
