“Wax Strong in Iniquity”

When the immediate threat of the Gadianton revival diminished, the Nephites returned to their routine, including the internal contentions that have plagued them for long years. Based on past occurrences, we can fill in the story behind Mormon’s generalization: “They began to wax strong in iniquity.” For the Nephites, this iniquity was a desire for the social hierarchies, wealth, and prestige seen in their larger world.
