Joseph Smith taught that gospel dispensations were always opposed by counter-dispensations. It is not the lot of faith, righteousness, and all attendant principles to go unopposed. As the light of day is followed by the dark of night, so the light of the gospel will be opposed by the prince of darkness. As the Saints gather in holy places to receive holy instruction, so the wicked assemble in their dark chambers to swear oaths and design their secret plans.
