Here is another precious verse. Prior to the time that king Zedekiah was blinded and hauled off to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar, Zedekiah was required to watch the execution of what the Bible writers thought was all of his sons.1 However Zedekiah must have rejoiced in his heart to see that his son, Mulek, who may have been an infant, was not among the sons who were killed. Only in the Book of Mormon do we learn that this little boy was brought to America by a group who escaped from Jerusalem and all of those who came with him were afterwards called Mulekites. The Book of Mormon tells how these people eventually intermingled with the Nephites and thereby introduced the seed of king David into the Nephite blood line. To further unite this story with the history of the Nephites, Nephi reminds them of their own history when Lehi and his family were driven out of Jerusalem in 600 B.C.
